The 3-Inch Core: The Canadian Industrial Standard
While desktop label printers might use 1-inch cores, almost all commercial-grade automatic applicators require a 3-inch (76mm) core. This size provides the structural integrity needed to handle the tension of high-speed machinery. If a roll is too flimsy, the liner can snap or the labels can drift, resulting in thousands of wasted units. The Mystery of Unwind Directions (Position 1-4)
If you are applying labels by hand, the direction doesn't matter. But the moment you load a roll into a machine, the Unwind Direction (also called the "Lead Edge") is critical.

Top Off First (Position 1): The top of your artwork comes off the roll first.
